Up and down the ballot, this year’s elections will shape the future our country, communities, and families. With so much at stake, we need as many voices, from all walks of life, to speak out about the importance of participating in 2016 to shape the world we want for ourselves.
Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) and Rock the Vote are invested in demonstrating the power of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) this election cycle, and we invite you to join us. This is a nonpartisan effort focused on motivating young people to vote spans college campuses and local communities across the country.
We’re joined by AAPI student networks, who are forming teams to compete against each other to see who can turnout more voters—throughout the campaign, we’ll be joined by celebrities and influencers to engage the teams!
The teams consist of:
Team Jade: Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Student Association (ITASA) and the Union of North American Vietnamese Student Associations (UNAVSA)
Team Gold: East Coast Asian American Student Union (ECAASU)
Team Ruby: Midwest Asian American Student Union (MAASU)
Team Pearl: National APIA Panhellenic Association (NAPA)
Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) are the fastest growing population in the country, and it’s estimated that the size of the AAPI electorate will double by 2040. Despite our growing political power, our communities still have some of the lowest rates of voting in the country, particularly among young AAPIs.
In such an important election year, we need to ensure that as AAPIs, we are making the issues that matter to us heard and seen. As we advocate for increased representations of AAPIs on-screen, we must also push for increased representation and voices off-screen.
We ask you to join our efforts to create a new, powerful generation of AAPI voters.
Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) is a national nonpartisan nonprofit organization focused on increasing voter participation and civic participation. By working with nonprofit partners and youth organizations in 25 states, we are here to ensure that the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) vote is heard and recognized in 2016 and beyond. APIAVote conducts research, programming, and a YouthVote campaign to change the narrative around AAPIs in civic engagement. Their most recent PSA has reached over 100,000 people through social media.
Rock the Vote is the largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization in the country driving the youth vote to the polls. Since 1990, Rock the Vote has fused pop culture, music, art and technology to fulfill its mission of building long-term youth political power. During the past six Presidential elections, Rock the Vote ran the largest voter registration drives for young people and has partnered with more than 25,000 partners through its online, multi-lingual voter registration tool. Rock the Vote is dedicated to mobilizing the vote, protecting voting rights and advocating for an electoral process and voting system that works for the Millennial generation, America’s largest and most diverse population in history.
